Last week was the inauguration of College of the Atlantic's eighth president, Dr. Sylvia Torti, and I had the honor of serving as inaugural poet. They have published a story and video of the event on their website. I wrote my poem with inspiration from a 1950s postcard of the view from campus, back when it was occupied by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Nowadays that spot is known as the Monk's Circle. Here's my poem, One Small Place, along with a scan of the postcard and my photo from Sunday of the spot where it once stood.
